tattoo Aftercare instructions

Leave the bandage the tattooer put on you for a MINIMUM of 3-4 hours, or until you are home for the evening and able to wash it. If you were tattooed later in the day (and the bandage is secure), you should leave it on until the following morning.

When you remove the bandage, wash thoroughly with hot water, antibacterial soap, and your hand. Please repeat at least twice a day. Do not re-cover or re-wrap it at this point.

Day 3 or 4, whenever the tattoo begins to scab and dry out, you may begin putting a SMALL amount of moisturizer, 1-2 times a day. You may either use Aquaphor ointment, a plain unscented hand-lotion (Lubriderm, Cetaphil, etc), or shea butter / cocoa butter. Only do this when it feels dry or tight, otherwise leave it alone.

You can stop moisturizing after roughly 2 weeks. Remember, the tattoo will mostly take care of itself, so overall, less is more. Avoid direct sun exposure on the tattoo during healing. Outside of showering, please do not submerge/soak the tattoo for at least 2 weeks (no baths, swimming, etc).

Tattoos are the same type of trauma to the skin as a cut/scratch/ abrasion. Scabbing is completely normal. DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH or help the scabs come off in any way. After the scabs start falling off naturally, it will go through a brief flakey/shiny phase (similar to a sunburn).

The tattoo will look different throughout the healing process, it will not be completely healed and settled for at least 3-4 weeks, so please be patient with it the entire time. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email us.
